When I was editing J & L’s wedding at Over Barn in Highnam, my face honestly hurt from smiling! It was one of those gorgeous hot summer days where everything felt extra golden — and the outdoor ceilidh later on was just the cherry on top.
Getting Ready (Together!)
Usually my wedding mornings start with the couple in two different rooms, but J & L flipped tradition on its head and got ready together. It was so chilled, so fun, and honestly, such a lovely way to start their day. There was laughter, a few nerves, and lots of helping each other with jewellery, dresses, and finishing touches. I loved it.
The Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony took place inside the barn in the late afternoon, and it couldn’t have been lovelier. There were some pre-wedding nerves, but the best part was that they had each other to lean on - you could see them settle as soon as they held hands. Walking down the aisle together was such a special moment, and I loved being able to capture those steps in photos.
The ceremony was run by the wonderful Nicky (Supernova Celebrant) who said such lovely words about the couple, completely personalised their vows and even incorporated a 'hand fasting' ceremony for the kids to get involved and have a role.
The Ceilidh
If you’ve never been to a ceilidh before, it’s basically a big traditional dance - think live folk music, a “caller” shouting out the steps, and lots of spinning around in circles with whoever’s nearby. It’s energetic, joyful, and guaranteed to get everyone on their feet (yes, even the ones who say they don’t dance!).

J & L made it even more fun by giving every single guest a cowboy hat. Picture the barn doors flung open, hats on, and everyone piling outside into the evening sunshine. For over an hour, they danced, twirled, and laughed their way through song after song.
Honestly, it was one of the most fun wedding receptions I’ve ever photographed. If you’re planning your day and want something unique that guarantees unforgettable memories, a ceilidh is 100% the way to go.
Golden Hour & Couple Shots
Over Barn is such a dream of a venue - rustic beams, open fields, and the prettiest light. We snuck off for some portraits, and honestly, these two were just naturals. No awkward posing, just them being them - relaxed, laughing, and wrapped up in each other.
Any what did they say about me?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer! Everything felt so easy and we’ve loved seeing our wedding photos. Before the wedding, having our photos taken was something we were a bit apprehensive about but on the day it was like having your friend take the photos.
We highly recommend Jess to anyone who is looking for a photographer.
And finally...
J & L, your day was an absolute dream. Thank you for letting me tag along with my camera and capture all that joy. I could say SO much more about this wedding and share about 100 more photos (but I won't!). I’ll be smiling about this one for a long time.
If you’re planning your wedding and want relaxed, storytelling photos with a side of big smiles, I’d love to chat. You can find more about my wedding photography HERE.
